The San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival

Since 1982, the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival has presented Asian-themed films from all over the globe. Presented by the Center for Asian American Media, the festival annually showcases cutting-edge narrative and documentary features, short films and videos, and a variety of other programs and special events. The festival lays claim to boosting the careers of such filmmakers as Ang Lee, M. Night Shyamalan, Gurinder Chadha, Wong Kar-Wai, Tony Bui, and Justin Lin, among others. Like the San Francisco International Film Festival, most of this festival's screenings take place at the Sundance Cinemas Kabuki (formerly the AMC Kabuki 8) and the Castro Theatre, but the festival's arms extend to Berkeley's Pacific Film Archive and San Jose's Camera cinemas, among other venues.
