Howard's work as Djay is sort of dazzling, but his character's unrelentingly selfish behavior makes audience identification an uphill battle.

Favreau fully respects the material, and brings to the table a highly developed sense of humor and—praise the heavens—taste.

Montiel and his collaborators can pat themselves on the back for elevating empty material just a bit, but this is disposable cinema, designed to hit and run after an opening weekend.
