Darren Aronofsky
Darren Aronofsky—
The Fountain
—10/31/06
My grandma was ninety-three, and she had a heart attack and they tried to resuscitate her three times. They broke her ribs; they shoved pipes down her throat...It's just--it's butchery. So I think you can go too far.
The Fountain (2006)
Hugely ambitious and visually commanding...the kind of artful, textured, defiantly non-mainstream gamble more filmmakers should be taking.
The Wrestler (2008)
Darren Aronofsky’s character study...[has in Mickey Rourke] an actor unusually in sync with a role, indeed what seems to be the role of his career.
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Black Swan (2010)
Where
Black Swan
most succeeds is in Aronofsky’s high-flying style, his approach to the story as a fever dream blurring the fine line between a performer playing a role and a psychotic succumbing to delusion.
