I'm hard-pressed not to recommend Robots as an energetic family-movie distraction...[but] plotting is...mechanical.

Has enough crisp sight gags, character moments, frantic mayhem, and musical interludes...to box the family crowd into a state of punch-drunk love.

Despite its exotic setting, the personal connection of Rio-bred director Carlos Saldanha, the odd eye-popping sequence, and a lot of literal color, the new CGI-animated Rio turns out to be figuratively colorless.

Rio was pretty generic to begin with, and the follow-up doesn't fly far from the nest...[it's the] vocally virtuosic amorous aria, 'Poisonous Love,' that is the picture's hands-down highlight.
