Meet the Robinsons (2007)

Director: Stephen J. Anderson. Cast: Tom Kenny, Harland Williams, Adam West, Angela Bassett, Jordan Fry.

Meet the Robinsons is Disney's red-headed stepchild of the moment, a CGI-animated picture developed during the rift between the studio and Pixar. When Pixar's John Lasseter came back into the fold, he set to work trying to salvage Meet the Robinsons, a pictorially punchy but narratively flawed kiddie adventure. A good beginning and a good end sandwich a disasterously incoherent middle, in which a present-day orphan meets his looney, looney family in the future. Chronically unable to relax, Meet the Robinsons decides much too late in the story to develop its character, after its audience has lost interest. Meet the Robinsons isn't a total loss, given its positive message and, at least in its preferable Digital 3D presentation, visual dazzle. It's also preceded by "Working for Peanuts," a 1953 Donald, Chip, and Dale cartoon originally made for stereoscopic 3D.
