Written by first-time screenwriter and one-time Harvey Weinstein assistant Mark Friedman and directed by Irwin Winkler, Home of the Brave may be the most horrid picture to earn a winter slot. The story of Iraq War vets failing to readjust to civilian life, the film displays little narrative drive, nothing distinctive to say, and hackneyed character development. Grade-schoolers will be surprised to learn that war heroes have difficulty coming home and develop PTSD, alcoholism, insomnia, depression, and social problems. The rest of us will merely wince in embarrassment for leads Brian Presley, Jessica Biel, and Samuel L. Jackson, who proves he's the wrong guy to play drunk.
