It's this Star Trek's greatest stroke of genius to conceive of Kirk and Spock as two rebels looking for a cause...

Has enough crisp sight gags, character moments, frantic mayhem, and musical interludes...to box the family crowd into a state of punch-drunk love.

The comic targets and the central manchildren bromance all feel overly familiar...Still, Paul benefits from Pegg and Frost's British comedic slant and the full complement of comedic talent...

Smart or...dumb? Yes, and...fun to hang around with for a couple of hours.

You can go home again. But it's going to involve a lot of drinking.

Thundered back onto the BBC in a manner that honored the series' canon while also injecting new energy and reestablishing a show previously aimed primarily at children as one sophisticated enough that adult geeks could love it unabashedly.

McQuarrie doesn't make it easy to invest in the characters here, but paradoxically he does know how to make us grip our armrests as they face danger, and thus the mission is accomplished once more.

What works (marginally) in this instantly forgettable entry: a few diverting character moments...fan-serving fairy dust...action, action, action.
